Magical Marrakech
/Salam Alikoum gastronomads,
I am pleased to report that my May Marrakech tour was a wild success. We stayed in our usual fabulous digs – the mud-brick hand built Dar Tasmayoun in the countryside and the chic Maison du Trésor in the medina. We made couscous from scratch (quite tricky with a gin & tonic in one hand), kneaded bread with our knuckles, made pigeon and almond pastillas and glowed perfumed sweat in 40 degrees. The camel ride in the desert was quite gentle compared to the wild mule ride in the Ouirgane mountains. Hearts in mouths, we intrepidly negotiated crevaces and fiords while singing with the mulateers. I think their enthusiastic singing had something to do with how good our bottoms looked on a mule. There are already bookings for 2017 so start planning now.
I'm at my home in Uzès, half an hour from Avignon, teaching sun-drenched Southern French recipes until the end of September. Join me for a class if you happen to be in the neighbourhood. And... when I'm not in residence my chic new pad (right in the centre of town) is available for rent. Full details on Airb&b.
If you missed my recent Uzès article in NZ Life & Leisure magazine you can read it on the Uzès page of my website.
À bientôt.
