Welcome to Perth, Swan Valley and Margaret River – land of endless sunshine,
crayfish and Cabernet.
We start the tour in Perth, the sunniest city in Australia which has exploded in the last five years to become very hip, cool and gastronomic. It is packed with innovative, modern-Australian cuisine and captivating, swish hotels. The streets are wide, there are funky tapas bars, young confident forward thinking people and a surprising level of general happiness. There is a big Aboriginal culture and presence there, both in food and in art, which is really really wonderful. Think clean beautiful beaches, shopping, indigenous and international culture, foodie walking tours, markets, cooking lessons, high end restaurants.
Swan Valley is half an hour from Perth and the oldest wine making region in Western Australia. It is a charming rustic place with a lavish fusion of history, art, wine and artisanal food. It takes its fresh produce seriously and anything grown there, be it asparagus or chickens, tastes good because of the soil. We’ll do a day trip there.
The rest of the tour is in the spectacular Margaret River. This bio-diversity hotspot, home to 5570 plant species, is very gorgeous visually and that's before you've even eaten the barramundi, scallops and marron (crayfish) and wild foods. It is famous for stunning turquoise surf beaches, sunset walks, cheese, olive oil, craft beer, wildflowers, and premium wine to the point where they have their very own food festival Gourmet Escape. Cabernet and chardonnay shine brightly. There are whales and dolphins in the water and kangaroos on the roadside. Our last night bash will be the usual understated affair.
Important: For this tour you should be of a reasonable level of fitness with no mobility issues.
