Welcome to South Australia… Adelaide, Barossa and Fleurieu – the nation's food bowl and an impossibly beautiful land dotted with vineyards and cute German villages.
We start the tour in Adelaide. Not only is it known for its relaxed vibe but also for the unique, experimental and multi-cultural nature of the cuisine, influenced by all the people who have called it home - indigenous, Italian, German, English. It is a really charming, walkable, sophisticated city full of farmer's markets, beaches and great bars. It has the most famous wine areas in Australia right in its back yard. Shiraz and riesling are the luscious vineyard stars.
Fleurieu Peninsula. As well as gutsy reds (McLaren Vale), they’re big on gin, whiskey and beer making in South Australia. Think stunning, rugged coastline, white beaches, olive groves and a mellow mediterranean vibe. We will visit the outrageous, eccentric d’Arenberg cube - home to the iconic winery and art gallery where we will blend our own wine.
The Adelaide Hills, half an hour east of the city are charming, chic, arty and full of cool climate vineyards and adorable heritage German towns like Hahndorf. The elegant leafy streets are lined with pubs, bakeries and cafés. We will visit Magill Estate whose fame rests on Australia's most admired red wine - Grange Hermitage - now known as Penfolds Grange.
Do I need to say anything about the Barossa Valley? Do I need to mention Maggie Beer’s realm of fabulosity - cooking school and farm shop? This famous region is bursting with vineyards, olive groves, up-market restaurants and gorgeous accommodation. The folks there have a joy de vivre that is hard to resist. Our last night bash will be the usual over-the-top understated affair.
Important: For this tour you should be of a reasonable level of fitness with no mobility issues.
